Recurrent ear infections are common in dogs and can be costly for owners. Strategies to prevent recurrences and alternative treatments to address resistant infections are urgently needed. Researchers will evaluate the use of two preventive treatments in client-owned dogs prone to recurrent bacterial ear infections. The team also will conduct a small clinical trial in client-owned dogs diagnosed with an ear infection. For comparison data, one group will receive a novel non-antibiotic treatment and one group will receive standard-of-care antibiotics. The researchers will then compare the two treatments to see if the novel treatment is equal to, or superior to, current treatment protocol. Together, these studies may provide safe and alternative options for veterinarians who regularly treat recurrent ear infection cases in their clinics.
