Updated March 20, 2025 – Morris Animal Foundation is now accepting proposals for the study of canine hemangiosarcoma. The proposal deadline has been EXTENDED to April 9, 2025, 4:59 p.m. ET.

This request for proposals represents the next phase of the Foundation’s Hemangiosarcoma Initiative to advance the prevention, detection, and treatment of this aggressive cancer in dogs. Hemangiosarcoma has emerged as the most common cancer diagnosis in the Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, accounting for nearly 50% of all cancer-related deaths in the cohort. Researchers are encouraged to submit proposals, particularly those leveraging Study data and samples from the Bette M. Morris Data Commons & Biorepository, to support groundbreaking advancements in canine cancer research.

Collaborative proposals between academia and industry are especially welcome to help translate findings into real-world applications more quickly. For-profit applicants recommended for funding will need to meet additional requirements. To ensure the availability of samples, all investigators must confirm sample types and volumes with the Foundation’s data team before submitting a proposal.

“Hemangiosarcoma is a heartbreaking cancer affecting countless dogs, and the Study has revealed a strikingly high incidence of this disease,” said Dr. Julia Labadie, Principal Investigator of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. “For too long, progress in diagnosing and treating hemangiosarcoma has been limited. By investing in the most impactful research and leveraging the robust samples and data from the Study, we aim to drive meaningful advancements that will improve the outlook for dogs at risk of this aggressive cancer.”

More information on the application process is available on the Foundation’s Grants page. Any inquiries that remain unanswered by the FAQ page can be directed to [email protected].
