Detecting disease early could improve clinical outcomes but in veterinary medicine clinical signs often aren’t apparent until disease is advanced. Annual blood testing (complete blood count and serum chemistry) helps detect potentially important changes in organ function at an early stage, but little data is available to help veterinarians interpret the results. Researchers will use data from the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study to establish the magnitude of changes in annual wellness data that occur in normal dogs. Understanding blood testing variations may help to predict development of disease earlier, potentially improving outcomes.
