Providing adequate pain relief to animals after surgical procedures is vital for healing. Researchers will investigate the effectiveness of two classes of drugs (bupivacaine and morphine) for providing pain relief in dogs that undergo neutering. They will test whether a combination of both drugs provides better pain relief than administration of either drug individually. The drugs' effectiveness will be evaluated using electroencephalogram and a behavior-based pain scale. The goal of the study is to identify a better strategy for relieving postsurgical pain in dogs that have been neutered.
