The use of opioid pain-relieving drugs is minimally described in donkeys. Even though these drugs often are used for severe pain in other species, little is known about the appropriateness and effectiveness of these drugs in donkeys. Researchers will study the effects of two different doses of morphine in this species. This new data will help direct the appropriate use of morphine in clinical patients to improve the care and quality of life of donkeys worldwide.
