Although an exact number is unknown, it is estimated that tens of millions of free-roaming cats live in the United States. Researchers will address this overpopulation problem by investigating the effectiveness of a contraceptive vaccine to safely curb reproduction in freeroaming female cats for up to three years. An effective contraceptive would help stabilize cat colonies, reduce impact of disease outbreaks, and improve overall health for millions of cats as well as other species living in and near their habitats.
