Sunny

Forever in our hearts
I got Sunny through a rescue and she had health problems from the beginning, but that didn't matter to me because she was the happiest dog in the world. No matter what was going on, she was happy, playful and and smiling. She was the most affectionate dog I have ever had, constantly wanting to touch me and vice versa. She was so smart, teaching herself how to do specific tasks to help me with whatever I was doing, despite the fact that she was way past the age people say a dog can learn new things. One of the more unusual things she would do is surprise me by getting under the covers on the bed and putting her head on the pillow on "her side" while I was in the bathroom. She retrieved things for me without me having to ask for anything and she taught herself to open the refrigerator door using a kitchen towel I had hanging on the handle. She had specific tastes in music, preferring only female vocalists. When she got sick at the end, she went downhill fast, but I did everything I could to try to save her, including giving her saline IVs daily as prescribed by the vet. I really believed that I could save her with my love for her, which was all-encompassing, because she was so angelic and made me believe that anything was possible. Even though she was so ill that she had to be euthanized last year, I am still grieving for her to this day. She was like my child, not like a dog, and I still regret to this day that I didn't spend more time with her when I could have.
