Savannah

Forever in our hearts

Savannah was definitely one of a kind.  We aren’t sure if she ever fully grasped that she wasn’t a human being.  Savannah brought so many memories to our lives with her countless kisses on the cheek and kneading on your neck.  But only after you picked her up and held her on your shoulder like you would hold an infant.  We always had to tell the vet techs to anticipate Savannah trying to turn and rest her paws and head on their shoulder.

Savannah was also a dedicated co-worker and made sure you were never working alone.  She would spend many hours supervising you while laying on the pull out desk drawer.  If you were having a particularly bad day, she would often lay close to you and rest the top of her head against your arm or hold your arm with her front paws.

Mornings were spent sitting on the bathroom counter and talking about her dreams from the night before, how much she was looking forward to the day, and how happy she was to interact with her humans.  Savannah could do that because she talked more than any other cat on Planet Earth. And she had many different words to use! We often said she knew over a thousand words because of the many different meows and tones she had.  If she felt that no one was paying attention to her, she would raise her big, fluffy paw in the air and reach out for your arm.  She knew when she wasn’t the center of attention and would make sure to get it back.

Her favorite hobbies were cuddling on the couch, eating grass outside, and sleeping in the bed next her humans.  Laying on the cradle in front of the roaring fireplace was where she could always be found during the winter months.  In the summer, she would lay in the sunshine that came through the doors and windows.

Many hours were spent playing with the toy fish and bringing it to her humans.  Lots of loud meowing was involved and preceded the delivery of the fish to wherever her humans were.  The toy fish racked up many miles of “travel” around the house.

When Savannah would swat at the cardboard and wire toy, those big paws would move in slow motion and could have functioned as a fan.  She would sit in the top of her cat tree and swat and swat at those dreadful pieces of cardboard rolled on the end of the wire.  Sometimes she would get them in rapid succession and give those cardboard pieces all they could handle.

Savannah made sure you felt loved and conveyed just how loved she felt she was.  When she was laying next to you on the couch or kneading your neck, there was no other place she would rather be than right there at that very moment.

While her body could not keep up with her spirit, her memory will live on, her sweet demeanor will be missed, and her love will never be replaced.

The journey through grief is different for everyone, but we know support, community and sharing stories help make the experience one of remembrance, renewal and even celebration of the life lost. We hope you find comfort in the memorial you’ve set up for your companion and encourage you to share with family and friends so they can show their love and support.
