Mocha

Mocha Propes-Footit | 2018–2026 

On January 4, 2019, we rescued Mocha from Metro Animal Care and Control. What we didn’t know that day was just how much she would rescue us, too.

Mocha was a kind, considerate soul with such a gentle and motherly nature. She loved taking care of those around her and simply being close to her family. One of her greatest joys was being outside—stretched out on the deck or curled up on the patio furniture, soaking up the sunshine. Even when it was cold, Mocha wanted to be outside. If there was a patch of sun to be found, she would find it.

She loved to snuggle, share dinner with her daddies, and enjoy her favorite treat—her alligator Whimzees. But more than anything, Mocha loved being with her family.

After a very brief illness that was only discovered yesterday, we learned that our time with her had suddenly become incredibly short. Today, surrounded by the people who loved her most, we chose Lap of Love to come to our home and help Mocha transition peacefully and without suffering. Her skin brother was by her side, and her skin sister was there through FaceTime. She left this world at home, surrounded by the family whose lives she had filled with love.

Mocha recharged our souls. She brought a gentleness, warmth, and unconditional love into our home that is impossible to put completely into words.

Throughout her life, I told her frequently:

You are loved.

You matter.

You are important.

You are family.

And I hope she understood every single word.

Our home will never be quite the same without Mocha’s paws on the ground. There will be an empty place on the patio furniture, an empty spot to snuggle, and a presence missing from our family that can never be replaced.

But while we no longer have her paws on the ground, we will always have her angel wings around us.

Run free, sweet Mocha. Find the warmest patch of sunshine and save us a place beside you. We will always love you!
