"Fetch" - CH Goldruls Play Ball Y'all, CCA
Fetch was the little half-brother to our GRLS Hero, Mac, #2690. Where Mac is the quiet, contemplative one, Fetch was the big personality, and hit the ground running, growing up with our daughter's Berner, Mason, his wrestling partner - the one he'd torment and set up for the fall when mischief was afoot. Claiming his first Conformation major in 9-12, Fetch finished his championship in short order after his second birthday. Soon thereafter, he showed at GRCA National in eastern shore Maryland with his (and Mac's) mother, Merci, who claimed Brood Bitch honors at that National. That day the judge quietly told Fetch's handler he was the most outstanding dog in the ring that day. We were on a course to campaign our rambunctious boy into a berth at Westminster. That course took a tragic turn 15 months later when Fetch was not himself. Blood work sent mixed messages, but a splenectomy told the bitter truth - Hemophagocytic Histiocytic Sarcoma, an older dog's disease, in a dog not yet four years old. Our sweet, beautiful boy died of liver failure on the floor of our breakfast room, not five weeks after the diagnosis. GRCA National in Ocala was particularly difficult - big brother Mac showed in Veterans and Stud Dog, along with our Jay-R, Mac's little boy, who five months after our loss of Fetch, helped ease the pain. It was a haunting grief, though, watching Fetch's sire show Top 20, knowing his little boy, who would have been in his prime at six years old, should have been there with him. Mac is our Hero, Fetch will always be our Star.
