Buckles

Forever in our hearts
Buckles came into our lives in July 2000. This would be our first time interacting with the dachshund breed. We certainly hit the jackpot with Buckles ~ for such a small dog, she had the biggest personality! It took us 7 or 8 times replacing the mini blinds in our bedroom window before we realized why she was tearing them up. She just wanted to look outside when she didn't get to go with us when we went to the horse pasture. If we left the blind closed, she would chew a hole in it and stick her head through that hole and just watch us. Once we figured that out, we made sure the blind was pulled up so she could see out. When she wanted something, she would literally stomp her front feet! She was such a mess!Buckles learned that she could grunt at you to get your attention. She loved belly rubs. When she was happy, the corners of her mouth would turn up into a smile. In April 2013, at nearly 13 years old, Buckles was diagnosed with diabetes. She required 10 units of insulin in the morning and 10 in the evening. In October 2013, she started limping. Several x-rays later revealed that she had cracked a bone in her front leg but those x-rays also revealed several masses in her chest and shoulders, which turned out to be cancer. In early January 2015, her left eye started to bulge out a little - her cancer had spread. We lost Buckles to cancer on February 3, 2015. She had our hearts and will be missed. Buckle Bunny * 05.22.2000 - 02.03.2015
