Updated December 18, 2018 ‘Twas the night before the annual study exam, and all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a louse.

The exam kit was placed by the front door with care,

In hopes that the samples soon would be in there.

Our golden pups were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of dog treats danced in their heads.

The kids in their bedrooms, and adults in theirs, too,

Had just settled down for a long night’s snooze.

When daylight broke through, the dogs they were fasted,

They grumbled and begged, but were quickly out-lasted.

Away to the door and out to the car,

Our journey began, but we did not have to go far.

The sun on the crest of the roadway ahead,

Gave the luster of mid-day to all as we sped.

When what to our wondering eyes should appear,

But a spotless vet clinic, and eight lovely techs dear.

With a veterinarian so lively and quick,

We knew in a moment our goldens wouldn’t get sick.

More rapid than eagles the nurses they came,

With needles, syringes and excellent aim.

Now urine, now blood, now nail clips and feces,

Each bottle, each vial, let us pack with some squeezes.

To the top of the tube, give FedEx a call,

Now send away, send away, send away all!

We went to our car and ate a small snack,

Another year done, don’t make us come back.

But we heard them exclaim as we drove out of sight,

Make sure you fill out your questionnaire tonight!
