May 1, 2019 – For pet parents and animal lovers around the world, one of the worst things they can hear is that a pet they love has cancer. It’s a word that causes fear and confusion, and worries about what the future holds. That’s why, at Morris Animal Foundation, we envision a future where all cancers are treatable, and more cures are possible.

With the launch of our Stop Cancer Furever campaign, (formerly known as Unite to Fight Animal Cancer) we are raising funds for health research leading to breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of animal cancers. You can be a part of this work with a gift to our campaign, which will be matched until June 30, dollar for dollar by the Petco Foundation and Blue Buffalo Company, up to $200,000.

In the United States alone, approximately 12 million cats and dogs are diagnosed with cancer each year. And with over 100 types of different animal cancers, the devastating impact of this disease reaches across hundreds of species around the world – from transmissible facial tumors in Tasmanian devils, to lymphoma in koalas and ear tumors in Catalina Island foxes.

Fortunately, with the help of our incredible donors, we have been able to fund more than 300 animal cancer research studies over 60 years. We have already made significant progress when it comes to better therapies, treatments and diagnostic tools for cancer in our pets and animals around the globe.

In the last decade alone, Morris Animal Foundation has funded more than $15 million in cancer health studies, all to benefit the animals we love, and we are currently supporting studies of 10 different types of canine cancers, including osteosarcoma, urinary tract cancer and hemangiosarcoma; in addition to supporting studies of three top feline cancers – oral cancer, injection-site sarcomas and lymphoma.

With this work comes incredible optimism and hope in the battle against animal cancer. However, there is still so much more work that needs to be done. With our Stop Cancer Furever campaign, ending June 30, all the funds raised will support cutting-edge cancer research from immunotherapies to more targeted drug therapies, to help cats, dogs, horses and wildlife have longer, healthier lives.

This year, once again, we are grateful to the Petco Foundation and the Blue Buffalo Company for their generous and biggest commitment yet to our campaign. They have announced a gift match for every dollar we receive for our Stop Cancer Furever campaign, up to $200,000.

Let’s stop cancer from stealing the ones we love. Let’s stop cancer furever. Please join us in our fight against animal cancer and make your gift today. And, on behalf of animals everywhere, we sincerely thank you for your generous support!
