July 26, 2022 – Are you spending more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic? If so, the Pet Poison Helpline has a warning for you. Watch out for those everyday household pet hazards, including yeast, bread dough and brewed coffee, that could spell trouble for your pets.

Pet owners might be more familiar with common household toxins such as over-the-counter and prescription medications, rodenticides and fertilizers. But COVID-19 dramatically increased the percentage of calls to the Pet Poison Helpline for things we might take for granted but spell trouble for our pets.

Here’s what the Pet Poison Helpline reported as the top 10 pet poisons based on percent increase during the COVID-19 pandemic.

+145% Art supplies

+120% Cleaning products

+118% Paint

+116% Coffee grounds

+80% Marijuana
