Morris Animal Foundation CEO Keynote Speaker at Entreprenurship Academy

July 7, 2017 – Dr. John Reddington, President and CEO of Morris Animal Foundation, will be the keynote speaker at the Biomedical + Engineering Entrepreneurship Academy, July 10-12, at the Mike and Renee Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, University of California, Davis.

Dr. Reddington’s topic “Crossing the Valley of Death” highlights the difficulties of bringing products from the research bench to the marketplace, and strategies for success.  He will present the lecture Monday, July 10.

“Prior to joining Morris Animal Foundation, much of my career was in the highly volatile biomedical entrepreneurial space, so I’ve seen my share of successes as well as a few failures,” said Dr. Reddington, who received his DVM and PhD from Washington State University. “I’m excited to share what I have learned with the next generation of entrepreneurs who will be shaping the future of biomedical and engineering entrepreneurship, and I’m grateful to the University of California for this opportunity.”

Dr. Reddington joined Morris Animal Foundation in 2016, transitioning from his role as a consultant in the global biopharmaceutical industry to heading up a global nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing animal health. Prior to that, he served in leadership roles at Cambridge Biomedical Inc.; Sirtex Medical Inc., the U.S. division of Sirtex Medical Group Ltd. (ASX: SIR); and Valentis Inc., where he played a key role in transitioning Valentis’ clinical focus from gene therapy to poloxamer-based therapeutics to treat cardiovascular disease. Previously, he founded DiagXotics Inc., and led it to become the world leader in disease diagnosis for the $52 billion global aquaculture market.

The Entrepreneurship Academy at which Dr. Reddington will be speaking is a three-day program designed for upper-division undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty and other participants to explore the commercial potential of their ideas.

The academy combines focused lectures, practical exercises, networking sessions and hands-on experiences in an innovative format to help attendees explore how their research can make a broader impact in industry, the marketplace and the world. Participants learn to effectively present their ideas, identify market needs and opportunities, and develop a network of experts to support their venture.
