Hematopoiesis is the process by which all blood cells, including important immune cells, are produced in bone marrow. Despite its key role in canine health, hematopoiesis in dogs (and most other animal species) is poorly understood because of a lack of canine-specific research tools to study this key biological process. To fill this knowledge gap, researchers will develop a new tool to generate blood cells in the laboratory which could allow for more detailed studies of hematopoietic and immune diseases, including cancer.
