Since our founding in 1948, Morris Animal Foundation has funded hundreds of health research studies to protect, treat and cure the world's companion animals and wildlife.

Our studies have led to major advances in veterinary care, including vaccines and other preventions, diagnostic tools and new therapies for the diseases and health conditions that threaten the lives of the animals we love. Search our completed study database by species and/or disease to learn more about how our work has given animals longer, healthier lives.

Neutering Program Successfully Controls Feline Overpopulation
The TNMR program was accepted into the community as an effective nonlethal procedure to control and reduce outdoor cat populations. During this project, the student and her team cared for 1,060 cats. Each cat was neutered, marked and received postsurgery care until it fully recovered, after which time adult cats were released in the same location where they were trapped, and 225 social kittens were adopted out to give them better life quality. Thanks to Morris Animal Foundation’s support, and because results were achieved, the Carolina Foundation and governmental institutions in Veracruz State are now collaborating with the research team to strengthen the existing TNMR program, rather than catching and killing the more than 5,000 cats that live in the community. Local volunteers and organizations are helping, and the team continues to educate residents and find homes for stray cats and kittens.
