Denver/October 1 - Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) has named Dr. Wayne Jensen as its new chief scientific officer. Dr. Jensen will work to increase animal health and welfare efforts for the Foundation, including developing strategies to fund more veterinary research to protect, treat and cure companion animals and wildlife.
"Dr. Jensen's expertise in the veterinary world is outstanding; he is a wonderful addition to the Foundation," states Dr. Patricia Olson, MAF president/CEO. "We look forward to working with him to improve animal health worldwide."
Jensen has more than 20 years of veterinary experience. He graduated from Colorado State University's (CSU) College of Veterinary Medicine, interned at Iowa State University and returned to CSU to obtain a PhD in veterinary pathology. During this time, he also received a National Institutes of Health Physician Scientist Award (the first awarded at CSU). He continued his postdoctoral training at the National Jewish Research Center, studying lymphocyte receptor-mediated signaling pathways. In 1997, Jensen joined the Heska Corporation as a senior scientist and later served as senior director of diagnostics research. After receiving an MBA from CSU, he became the senior director of business development at Heska.
"Morris Animal Foundation is the perfect place for me because I will be able to bring my veterinary, scientific and business practices together to advance animal health," states Jensen. "It all ties back to the Foundation's mission of improving the health and well-being of companion animals and wildlife worldwide."
