A Healthier Tomorrow for Animals

Evaluation of the mTOR Inhibitor Rapamycin in Dogs with Osteosarcoma

The National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium conducts clinical trials for pet animals and translates the results into plans for novel therapies for human and canine cancer patients. This project is looking at the drug rapamycin for treating dogs with osteosarcoma, an extremely painful and deadly bone cancer. The drug has shown to be well tolerated and associated with positive biological effects in dogs with osteosarcoma. The current trials will be part of an effort to determine if rapamycin is effective against this difficult cancer problem. These clinical trials will help both animals and humans in their fight against cancer.
