Feline Sarcoma Samples

MAF D06FE-308

Samples requested

Feline sarcomas (including both vaccine/injection- site associated (ISA) and non-ISA sarcomas)

Study outline

We are studying the cytogenetics of feline sarcomas, aiming to enhance existing diagnostic tools, and working towards a better understanding of the underlying cause of the disease.

We have particular interest in comparing the patterns of chromosomal abnormalities in:

a) sarcomas associated with injection-sites

b) sarcomas originating spontaneously with no evidence for injection association

                e.g.

                i) in cats that have never received vaccinations or other injections, or

ii) primary tumors arising at sites distant from injection sites, such as distal limb, head

Sample submission

We would be interested to receive samples from prospective cases to include into our study.

We recommend that sample submission is dealt with by the referring veterinarian.

Please call or email in advance to advise of your intent to submit samples

Sample collection and shipping

For each case we require the following, collected as aseptically as possible.

- representative, non-necrotic pieces of the tumor (preferably at least 1cm3 or equivalent) in each of the following:

                1) formalin (in a leakproof container)

                2) an empty, sterile container (refrigerate until ready to ship)

                3) RNA stabilization solution (OPTIONAL- supplied upon request at least                                                              48 hours before biopsy)

- 5-10ml EDTA blood

- basic patient information and clinical history relating to this tumor

- any associated pathology reports

- completed owner's consent form (to be supplied on request)

Samples should be packed securely and ship by overnight courier to the address below.

Please include ice packs (ensuring that none of the ice packs are in direct contact with any of the samples- we recommend wrapping each tube in bubble-wrap or similar first).
