In 2008, Morris Animal Foundation will fund about 120 new and continuing studies for dogs, cats, horses, llamas/alpacas, and wildlife as well as 30 veterinary student projects.

We also have numerous studies nearing completion. You can search our current study database by species and/or disease to learn more about the studies we are funding in the areas you care most about. The results will also show you whether a study is available for sponsorship.

D07FE-001: “Diuretic Renal Scintigraphy in Normal Cats - Pilot Study”

principal investigator: Dr. Silke Hecht, University of Tennessee
needs sponsorship

year: 1 of 1: $8,005.00

Kidney stones are common in cats. Left untreated, a stone can migrate into the tube connecting the kidney and the urinary bladder (the ureter), resulting in an extremely painful and potentially life-threatening situation (obstruction of the ureter). Early diagnosis of obstruction is necessary to save the kidney and the life of the patient. Invasive diagnostic procedures at this point are costly and associated with significant illness. This study will adapt for use in cats a noninvasive technique, called diuretic renal scintigraphy, which is currently used to diagnose ureteral obstruction in humans and dogs.
