In 2008, Morris Animal Foundation will fund nearly 200 new and continuing studies for dogs, cats, horses, llamas/alpacas, and wildlife as well as more than 40 veterinary student projects.
We also have numerous studies nearing completion. You can search our current study database by species and/or disease to learn more about the studies we are funding in the areas you care most about. The results will also show you whether a study is available for sponsorship.

Horses are athletic animals that need to have all of their leg joints (like their knees, elbows, wrists and ankles) in good health to perform well. Sometimes, however, their joints become painful without any indication as to why. This can be a serious problem that leads to osteoarthritis, inflammation in the joints that occurs when the body identifies something that might hurt it and tries to protect itself. There can be good and bad kinds of inflammation. This research involves looking at the cells in the body and in the joints that help to heal bad, painful inflammation. By figuring out what is making the horses hurt, the horse can receive better treatment to alleviate the inflammation.
