In 2008, Morris Animal Foundation will fund nearly 200 new and continuing studies for dogs, cats, horses, llamas/alpacas, and wildlife as well as more than 40 veterinary student projects.

We also have numerous studies nearing completion. You can search our current study database by species and/or disease to learn more about the studies we are funding in the areas you care most about. The results will also show you whether a study is available for sponsorship.

Each year many animals end up in shelters because they are either strays or their owners give them up. In this study, the student will evaluate possible behavioral differences between surrendered animals and strays. The animals brought to the Brazos County Animal Shelter will be observed for at least 20 minutes within the first two hours of coming to the shelter. They will be watched again at least 20 hours later. The animal's behavior will be recorded as well as the animal's history, specifically looking at whether the animal was surrendered or a stray. The behavior of these two groups of animals will then be compared to see if any differences exist. Ultimately by understanding these animals' behavior, shelter staff can better handle and train these animals, leading to better adoptions.
