In 2008, Morris Animal Foundation will fund nearly 200 new and continuing studies for dogs, cats, horses, llamas/alpacas, and wildlife as well as more than 40 veterinary student projects.
We also have numerous studies nearing completion. You can search our current study database by species and/or disease to learn more about the studies we are funding in the areas you care most about. The results will also show you whether a study is available for sponsorship.

In 2004, an equine influenza virus jumped the species barrier from horses to dogs. It quickly spread throughout the American dog population and has become an emerging threat to canine health. Recent data indicate that this kind of jump has occurred before, suggesting that other equine influenza viruses also may be able to spread to dogs. This study will identify the molecular factors that contribute to transmission of influenza viruses from horses to dogs. This information will be vital for identifying antiviral drugs to combat these viruses and for developing canine influenza vaccines to protect dogs.
