Each step for this dog owner honors lost pet

Brandy Ludlum fights back the tears as she talks about getting ready for the upcoming Morris Animal Foundation Indy K9 Cancer Walk on October 2, 2016.

Brandy will be participating in her fourth walk. However, she’ll be missing a special companion; Heidi, her beloved golden retriever.

“Heidi and I walked the first two walks together,” said Brandy. “Heidi did both walks after her cancer diagnosis. Hemangiosarcoma, surgery and chemotherapy couldn’t stop her spirit.”

Ironically, Brandy first learned of the walk while sitting in Heidi’s oncologist’s office. A brochure for the first Indy walk caught her eye and she decided to take action. Not only is Brandy an avid participant in the Indy walk, she also is a Morris Animal Foundation monthly donor – a Loyal Friend.

“I really appreciate the work Morris Animal Foundation does,” said Brandy. “I want to do anything I can to help.”

Brandy now has an 8-week-old puppy named Lily, who’ll be cheering Brandy on from the sidelines

“It makes me emotional thinking about Lily, too,” added Brandy. “What does her future hold? How can we change it?”
