Orvis Takes a “Shot” Against Canine Cancer

The Orvis Company Launches Photo Contest to Help Raise Funds and awareness for Morris Animal Foundation

Cancer is a disease that touches many of us. Canine cancer is the No. 1 cause of death of dogs over the age of 2. About 50 percent of dogs will develop the disease in their lifetime, and one in four will die from it. Many dog-loving people and companies, including The Orvis Company, are taking a stand against this horrible disease.

Orvis has partnered with Morris Animal Foundation, a nonprofit organization that invests in science that advances veterinary care for animals, to help raise funds and awareness for the Foundation.  Through the Orvis Cover Dog Contest, Orvis has raised nearly $700,000 for the Foundation and its efforts to fund preventives and treatments for canine cancer.

“The contest is a great way to memorialize a beloved dog lost to cancer, celebrate a dog who is a cancer survivor or create a brighter future for a current canine companion,” said David Haworth, DVM, PhD. President/CEO of Morris Animal Foundation.

To learn more or to enter your dog, visit to submit your photo or vote on the photo you like best. Winning photos will appear in a special spot on the Orvis website and could be chosen for the cover of an Orvis catalog. The winning photographer will receive a $500 Orvis gift card. The current Cover Dog Photo Contest ends September 30, 2012, so get your submissions and votes in today.
