Orvis Goes to the Dogs During Seize the Dog Days of Summer, July 27-August 27

Meet Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study heroes at your neighborhood Orvis store

July 20, 2017 – Did you ever meet a real superhero? Well, this is your chance! Orvis and Morris Animal Foundation are partnering during Orvis’ Seize the Dog Days of Summer celebration July 27 through August 27 to bring golden retrievers (our hero dogs!) enrolled in the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study into stores across the nation.

The hero dogs will be on hand, or paw, to share some puppy love. And their owners will be at the other end of the leash, ready to answer questions about the study, and what it means to advancing veterinary medicine and cures for cancer.  Check with your local Orvis store for specific dates when hero dogs will be visiting.

During Seize the Dog Days of Summer, Orvis customers also are invited to participate in each store’s Paw Print Program. Customers can purchase a paper paw print, write their dog’s name on the paw, and display it in the Orvis store. Proceeds will benefit the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.

“So many of us have lost dogs to cancer, so this cause is near and dear to the hearts of everyone at Orvis,” said Perk Perkins, CEO of Orvis. “Our Orvis families and employees are committed to doing what they can to help our dogs live longer, healthier lives, and our support for Morris Animal Foundation and their Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is an important part of that effort.”

The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is seeking to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic factors that may increase the risk of developing cancer and other major diseases in dogs, including diabetes and heart disease. Now in its fifth year, the study is the largest of its type ever done in veterinary medicine in the United States.

Orvis not only supports Morris Animal Foundation through the Dog Days of Summer and its Paw Print Program, but supports additional cancer research through the Orvis Cover Dog Contest. Through the Cover Dog Contest, Orvis customers have donated more than $1.1 million to support cancer research at Morris Animal Foundation.

“We are incredibly grateful for all the support we receive from Orvis,” said John Reddington, DVM, PhD, President and CEO of Morris Animal Foundation. “They not only help fund critical cancer studies that will improve the lives of dogs everywhere, they also create awareness about cancer and how it affects our dogs. Many owners, and their dogs, have benefitted from the ongoing efforts of Orvis, and we thank them.”
