Morris Animal Foundation’s Happy Healthy Cat Campaign Helps Cats Enjoy Longer, Healthier Lives

June 14, 2011

Denver—America’s No. 1 pet may get a lot of attention in videos posted on the web and funny photos, but the truth is that each year millions of shelter cats in our country need homes. While those videos and pictures can make for a good laugh, Morris Animal Foundation is asking cat lovers to share another kind of story—one that has changed their lives.

In celebration of Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month in June, Morris Animal Foundation is calling for anyone who has happily adopted a shelter cat to share a short posting about why their cat is cool. Happy, sad, hilarious, heart wrenching—Morris Animal Foundation wants them all.

To share why their shelter cat is cool, cat lovers must visit the Happy Healthy Cat Campaign Facebook page, “Like” it and post their story along with an optional photo of their furry friend. At the end of June whoever shares the best post, based upon Morris Animal Foundation staff selection, will receive a cat goodie pack filled with fun feline treats, toys and more.

June not only marks Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month but also the end of a three-year anonymous dollar-for-dollar matching challenge grant in which an anonymous donor will match every dollar given to the Foundation’s Helping Shelters Help Cats program up to $500,000. The three-year match began in 2008, and $85,000 is still needed by June 30 to get the remaining match. The Helping Shelters Help Cats program is a part of Morris Animal Foundation’s Happy Healthy Cat Campaign and is currently funding five feline health research studies aimed at reducing stress, improving health and increasing adoption and survival rates.

Donations can be made at www.Research4Cats.org and stories can be submitted at www.facebook.com/HappyHealthyCat.
