DENVER – The 11th annual Pepper/Sampson Memorial Classic NADAC Agility Trial to benefit Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Cancer Campaign will be held July 29 to July 31 at the University Of Nevada Reno campus, in the Women’s Sports Complex at 400 Manogue Road in Reno.
Since it was established in 2000, the Pepper/Sampson Memorial agility event has raised more than $100,000 for canine lymphoma research. This year they hope to continue their fundraising efforts to help research studies for canine cancer.
Pepper’s owners, Lin and Greg Battaglia, owners of mdt/Agility Ability, of Spanish Springs, Nev., were bathing and grooming him one January morning in 1999, when they found that the lymph nodes under his chin were enlarged. They were grape-sized, and he pulled away when the area was bushed.
Just 10 months after beginning an aggressive chemotherapy regimen, the Battaglias lost their beloved Sheltie, Pepper, to lymphoma, the No. 1 cancer affecting dogs. More than a year ago, Cherie and Sean Singer, friends of the Battaglias, also lost their Sheltie, Sampson, to lymphoma. The memorial event is named after their dogs, and their passion for fighting canine cancer has spurred hundreds each year to support their effort and help MAF continue researching canine cancer.
