PETCO and the Blue Buffalo Co. Pledge to Raise $1 Million for Foundation in Honor of Pet Cancer Awareness Month

May 19, 2011

Denver—Cancer is the No.1 cause of death in dogs over the age of 2—a statistic Morris Animal Foundation is devoted to changing. Fortunately, the nonprofit has some strong partners. In honor of May being National Pet Cancer Awareness Month, PETCO and the Blue Buffalo Co. have pledged to raise $1 million to help further the Foundation’s cutting-edge efforts in fighting canine cancer. Leading the charge is none other than long-time Foundation trustee Betty White.

America’s Golden Girl recorded a special PSA to create awareness of the pledge made by the partners to raise $1 million in the month of May. The funds in turn will directly benefit Morris Animal Foundation and the comprehensive pet cancer research it funds. Last year, the Blue Buffalo Co. and PETCO raised $800,000 for Morris Animal Foundation. Through this research, the Foundation will help advance the development of diagnostics, treatments, preventions and cures for cancer in dogs and cats.

For each bag of Blue Buffalo dog or cat food purchased at PETCO stores across the country, $1 will be donated to Morris Animal Foundation during the month of May. Donations of any amount will also be accepted at PETCO registers or at www.petcancerawareness.com, so customers can contribute to the cause as much as they would like.
