Participants in Morris Animal Foundation’s 1st Annual K9 Cancer Walk in Coconut Creek Raise Nearly $40,000 for Canine Cancer Research

December 15, 2010

Denver—Nearly 400 Florida dog lovers joined together on Sunday, December 5, for the 1st annual K9 Cancer Walk in Coconut Creek, Florida, and they raised more than $38,000 for Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Cancer Campaign. The campaign funds research to prevent, treat and, ultimately, cure cancer in dogs. Those who were not able to participate in the walk but would still like to help dogs live longer, cancer-free lives can donate online until Monday, December 27.

“Morris Animal Foundation couldn’t be happier with the support we received for the 1st annual K9 Cancer Walk in Coconut Creek. We more than doubled our original fundraising goal,” said Tish Czachor, canine cancer events manager. “The Foundation recognizes the need to help our best friends live longer, healthier, cancer-free lives and to share that mission with southern Florida dog lovers was amazing. With the support we received, we are one step closer to finding a cure.”

Thirty-four teams showed their spirit by participating in the Top Dogs Contest. Winners were announced at the event:

Most Team Members: Team Animal Cancer Care Clinic, 27 team members
Most Team Members (Honorable Mention): Everglades Golden Retriever Rescue and Club, 26 team members
Top Team: Bark for a Cure! $3,562
Top Fundraiser (Individual): Mary Gardner, $1,237
